One, Two, Three
November 18, 2008 - January 4, 2009
In collaboration with MCA DENVER.

One, Two, Three was an attempt to determine if we could figure out just what contributes to a person liking a piece of art on exhibition at MCA DENVER. We measured public opinion against a variety of different factors. Some of these factors were inherent to the pieces themselves, such as the size of the pieces, how far the pieces were from the bathroom, how much light fell on them, etc. We also looked at factors that changed from day to day, such as the weather, the stock market, the number killed in Iraq, etc.

Public opinion was gauged through the awarding of ribbons, much like field day back in grade school. There was a ribbon for first, second and third place. Each visitor was asked to award one ribbon to the piece he or she determined to be worthy of first, second or third place.

A website allowed people to play with the data. It provided a sense of which pieces were well-regarded and whether or not there were any correlations with the data we were tracking.
